Curious Vintage all set up at the Darwen light switch on. Looking incredibly festive and so many stalls to view.

A very much neglected early 19th Century Mahogany

A very much neglected early 19th Century Mahogany chest of drawers, now once again looking slightly magnificent.
This has been a very sympathetic restoration, with just the top requiring stripping,to remove ink and water stains and other age related stains.
Drawer fronts have been thoroughly cleaned ,treated and waxed. All brass work removed and buffed.
It’s not perfect and that was my plan for this piece, I wanted it to be honest with its knocks, scuffs and scars. That said it’s incredibly robust with all its oak constructed drawers gliding beautifully. And that brass work is bloody delicious set against those luscious plum drawer fronts.
I’ve just the sides to wax and polish and it’s good to go…..or do I keep this one?

A few after shots of the chest of drawers part way through. Top scraped of lacquer and Oxilic acid applied to remove some of the more stubborn stains. Got a great tip to use Bicarbonate of soda to neutralise- worked a treat🥳
Drawer fronts cleaned and the colour popped back nicely. The top is lighter now, but I’ve a few tricks up my sleeve to reduce that look.

Edit - the top looks very red/Orange in one shot. It was being treated with oxilic acid at the time and it as rather wet.

In the workshop. Oak framed mahogany chest of drawers.
Going to strip the top, as it’s rather stained and unloved. The rest of the drawers are just getting a good clean and polish; as I love the wear and colour of the wood. Drawer pulls are getting a polish as they’re bloody manky,as they say in Lancashire.
